Author Chat with Dr. Barbara Ella Milton, Jr.
October 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT
This 90-minute program will introduce the audience to Dr. Barbara Ella Milton, Jr.’s beloved mother, who died from Alzheimer’s in January 2019. Barbara Ella Milton, Sr. was a resilient, black, working-class lesbian and caregiver whose story illuminates a range of caregivers’ medical, financial, legal, ethical, and social welfare. Milton highlights essential behavioral, emotional, and spiritual self-care strategies and discusses coping with the complicated grief and loss when caring for a person with Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a burgeoning public health crisis, and people of color and women are disproportionately affected by it. The book’s voice is primarily that of a daughter. As a professional social worker, I seek to clarify how we can advocate for our loved ones to get the social services, health care, and dignity they deserve.
There will be a 10 minute Q&A session. Participants will be able to purchase Heeding the Caregiver Call: The Story of Barbara Ella Milton, Sr. and Alzheimer’s Disease before the event. The ebook is $3.99. The softback is $19.99 from www.heedingthecaregivercall.com.
