Coded Bias: Documentary Screening

May 7 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

To finish off Choose Privacy Week, we are honored to host a documentary Coded Bias film screening. Coded Bias explores how racial bias exists in facial recognition technology, how artificial intelligence often automates oppression, and how people are protecting civil liberties in the face of algorithms framed as neutral, but that is anything but. The documentary has won such prestigious prizes as the GlobeDocs Visionary Filmmaker Award and the Calgary International Film Festival’s Audience Choice Award.

Up to 50 people may attend the screening.

The official documentary trailer can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZl55PsfZJQ&ab_channel=MIFF. The official documentary website can be found here: https://www.codedbias.com/

A 1-hour discussion with Shalini Kantayya, the director, will follow the documentary screening on Zoom. Join the director Q&A by following this link: https://jepl-cep.bc.sirsidynix.net/event/coded-bias-director-qa/.
