REIMAGINING MENTAL HEALTH
FOR THE BIPOC COMMUNITY
The Jersey City Free Public Library and The Mental
Health Association in New Jersey Presents
BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month highlights the unique mental health
challenges and needs of historically disenfranchised or oppressed racial and
ethnic groups in the United States. Black and Indigenous people and other
people of color (BIPOC) experience a broad spectrum of ongoing
discrimination, oppression, and inequity. BIPOC Mental Health Awareness
Month is also a valuable time to dispel some of the myths about mental
illness among BIPOC communities. During this presentation entitled
“Reimagining Mental Health for the BIPOC Community”
we will discuss:
1. History of BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month
2. Common Barriers to Mental Health Care for the BIPOC Community
3. Resources to treatment
