The Fight of the Century: A Century Later

On July 2, 1921, at Boyle’s Thirty Acres in Jersey City, champion boxer Jack Dempsey fought George Carpentier in what promoter Tex Rickard billed as “The Battle of the Century.” The first million-dollar gate in boxing history, the fight would also become a landmark in the popular culture history of sports and technology as the first networked live radio broadcast of a sporting event.
